This feature is available on all Goodshuffle Pro Plans.

Once a payment has been initiated, whether it is an ACH or credit card transaction, it generally cannot be canceled. Below is an overview of why this is the case and what steps you can take if you need to reverse a payment.

Why Payments Cannot Be Canceled

Once initiated, payments are processed through financial institutions and payment processors, and they move quickly to support fast payouts. Because of how these systems work, there is no option to cancel or stop a payment after it has been submitted. This applies to both ACH (Automated Clearing House) and credit card transactions.

ACH Payments

ACH payments are processed through the banking network, and once the transaction is initiated, it cannot be canceled within Goodshuffle Pro. Your client may contact their bank directly to ask about stopping the payment, but success is not guaranteed and depends on the bank's policies and the transaction's processing stage.

Credit Card Payments

Credit card payments also cannot be stopped once they have been initiated. If a payment was made in error or needs to be reversed, wait for the transaction to finish processing and then issue a refund.

How to Reverse a Payment

If you need to reverse a payment, follow these steps:

  1. Wait for the payment to process. Allow the transaction to complete its processing cycle.

  2. Issue a refund. Once the payment has processed, issue a refund from the project's Billing tab.

If an online refund fails, you may need to record an offline refund instead. Learn more about what to do when an online refund fails.
